Production

Majority of our plastic sunglasses are generally crafted from polycarbonate, with the majority incorporating recycled materials to give them a new life in our eyewear. Unfortunately, not every frame shape, color, or lens color can be produced using recycled materials due to technical constraints.

Our Metal sunglasses are manufactured from iron tubes, which are pressed and bent to shape. A special coating adds shine without the need for nickel, ensuring our sunglasses pass any nickel test.

All of our lenses are made from polycarbonate. While acrylic lenses are found elsewhere, they are not part of our collection due to their tendency to shatter easily. This is why the FDA prohibits acrylic lenses in the United States. Our polycarbonate lenses undergo a rigorous 'drop-the-ball test' to demonstrate their impact resistance.

Eco Collection styles feature frames and/or lenses made from recycled materials. Our frames utilize recycled polyester, known as rPCTG, sourced entirely from food containers, bottles, and caps. Lenses are crafted from 100% recycled Poly Methyl Methacrylate, or rPMMA-L, sourced from display stands, optical waveguides, and optical lenses.

Blindys premium acetate sunglasses have gained popularity as an environmentally conscious choice within the eyewear industry, appealing to both fashion enthusiasts and environmental advocates. Acetate, a plant-based plastic, is derived from natural cotton and wood fibers. This distinctive material not only provides a sustainable alternative but also boasts numerous advantages that distinguish acetate sunglasses in the marketplace.
